Forty years at one table
Peng Restaurant opened its doors in 1982, in a quiet corner of Hougang — a neighbourhood that has long been home to Singapore’s Teochew community.
Little has needed to change since. The recipes are the ones the family started with: dishes that take their time, made the way Teochew cooking asks them to be made. Steamed fish that depends on the fish. Braises that depend on the hours.
Today, three generations of the founding family have cooked here, and the family is still in the kitchen. Regulars who came as children now bring children of their own — for dinner, for reunions, and for the occasions the family caters across Singapore.
