Our Story

Forty years at one table

Peng Restaurant opened its doors in 1982, in a quiet corner of Hougang — a neighbourhood that has long been home to Singapore’s Teochew community.

Little has needed to change since. The recipes are the ones the family started with: dishes that take their time, made the way Teochew cooking asks them to be made. Steamed fish that depends on the fish. Braises that depend on the hours.

Today, three generations of the founding family have cooked here, and the family is still in the kitchen. Regulars who came as children now bring children of their own — for dinner, for reunions, and for the occasions the family caters across Singapore.

    The restaurant is founded in Hougang, serving authentic Teochew cuisine to the neighbourhood.

  2. The decades between

    The second generation joins the kitchen, and the catering arm grows into the heart of the business.

  3. Today

    The third generation carries the same recipes forward, at the same address: 30 Lorong 1 Realty Park.

The Teochew table

  • Steamed Pomfret 蒸白鯧

    The measure of any Teochew kitchen — whole pomfret steamed gently so the flesh stays sweet and clean, lifted with sour plum, tomato and salted vegetable.

  • Teochew Oyster Omelette 蠔烙

    Orh nerng, done the old style — plump oysters folded through a crisp-edged egg and starch batter, richer and more delicate than its hawker cousins.

  • Braised Duck 滷鴨

    Lor ark — whole duck simmered slowly in a master braise of dark soy, galangal and spices until the meat is tender and deeply fragrant.

  • Chestnut Duck 栗子鴨

    A patient banquet classic: duck braised with chestnuts that soften into the sauce, lending the dish a quiet, earthy sweetness.

  • Cold Crab 凍蟹

    A Teochew signature of restraint — flower crab steamed, then chilled, so the natural sweetness of the meat speaks for itself.

  • Fish Maw Soup 魚鰾湯

    A gentle, nourishing broth built around silky fish maw — the kind of soup that anchors a Teochew celebration.

  • Orh Nee 芋泥

    The Teochew farewell to a good meal: warm yam paste, smooth and just sweet enough, crowned with ginkgo nuts.
